The School Improvement Process (SIP)...What is it?

SIP is our local effort to improve our school. This effort is based on the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Community Strategic Plan. Goal #1 of the Community Strategic Plan promotes highest student achievement. Ansbach Middle/High School has looked at our data concerning student achievement, and we have seen a need to focus our efforts in the area of reading. School improvement is organized on a five year cycle, of which we are in year four. Our goal is:

All Students will increase their reading comprehension skills in all content areas.

Our strategies for improving reading comprehension include:

Teacher directed instruction to improve reading comprehension
Targeting ‘at risk’ students for additional support*
Giving students additional time and resources as related to reading

*at risk is defined as students who score below the 40%ile in reading on standardize assessment and/or students who are exhibiting continued academic difficulties

What can you do as a parent to help with the School Improvement Process?

Encourage your student to actively participate in the 20 minute Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) time provided for them during each seminar period.
Provide your student with a literature rich environment
Read for enjoyment yourself and let your student see you reading
