Rowland's Report

Welcome to SY 2005-06. Our goal as a staff is to provide students with an excellent educational program, and to communicate on a regular basis with parent concerning their student’s progress. Some of the ways we will endeavor to regularly communicate with parents will include monthly Parent Newsletters, progress reports at mid-term, quarterly report cards, and Parent-Teacher Conferences twice during the school year. Additionally, we will call, send emails and/or write to parents as necessary.

Since communication needs to be two way, we want to encourage parents to contact the school when they need information or have a concern. We are happy to take messages in the office for teachers or you can email them directly. Below is a list of contact information that you will want to save for future reference to aide you in your communication efforts.

We also welcome you to visit the school but request that you always come to the office, sign-in and get a visitor’s pass no matter where you are going in the school. Visitor sign-in procedures are for the safety of all students.

Be Part of a Great Educational Program!

School Improvement Process

The School Improvement Process (SIP)...What is it?

SIP is our local effort to improve our school. This effort is based on the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Community Strategic Plan. Goal #1 of the Community Strategic Plan promotes highest student achievement. Ansbach Middle/High School has looked at our data concerning student achievement, and we have seen a need to focus our efforts in the area of reading. School improvement is organized on a five year cycle, of which we are in year four. Our goal is:

All Students will increase their reading comprehension skills in all content areas.

Our strategies for improving reading comprehension include:

     - Teacher directed instruction to improve reading comprehension
     - Targeting ‘at risk’ students for additional support*
     - Giving students additional time and resources as related to reading

*at risk is defined as students who score below the 40 %ile in reading on standardize assessment and/or students who are exhibiting continued academic difficulties

What can you do as a parent to help with the School Improvement Process?

     - Volunteer to be on the School Improvement Leadership Team (SILT)
     - Volunteer to read with students at school
     - Read with your student at home
     - Encourage your student to read on their own
     - Talk to your student about what they read
     - Encourage your student to actively participate in the 20 minute Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) time provided for them during each seminar period
     - Provide your student with a literature rich environment
     - Read for enjoyment yourself and let your student see you reading

Parent Orientation

By midterm, parents of middle school students begin to have questions and concerns about the social and academic progress of their student.  Many parents tell us that strategies that seemed to work for their elementary school child no longer are effective with their middle school student.

To address these parent concerns, at midterm we will host a parent orientation for parents of middle school students.  We have a goal of 100% parent participation.

When: Thursday, September 29, 3:30-5:00 (social hour form 3:15 - 3:30)

Where: AM/HS, room to announced

What:  Parents of middle school students, orientation and forum - "What Now?"

Who:  For all parents of middle school students

There may be a possibilty of child care.  Details forthcoming.

In order to provide services directed to your specific needs, we ask that you tell us what topics you are interested in.

Some of you may have expertise in middle age child developmennt, and may be interested in being a speaker.

Please direct your interests to us.
