JUNIOR YEAR CALENDAR 2004-05

Important Dates, Events, and Reminders
Your Junior year is a very important year.
The grades you earn this year will be an important factor in college's decision about your application for admission.

 

OCTOBER 2004

1 - Read your PSAT/NMSQT Student Bulletin and take the full-length sample test.
29 - Registration deadline for December SAT

This Month:
- Check for college fairs in your area.

 

NOVEMBER 2004

This Month:
- Continue your search for colleges. If available, use computer programs such as ExPAN to find schools that meet your criteria.
- Plan college visits whenever possible.
- If high school alumni visit during the holidays, be sure to talk with them about their college experiences.

 
 

DECEMBER 2004

1 - PSAT/NMSQT reports returned sometime after the first of the month.
4 - SAT I and SAT II test date
11 - ACT test date. Register with you high school counselor 2 weeks before the test.
20 - Registration deadline for January SAT I & II

This Month:

- Review your PSAT/NMSQT score report.  See where your strengths are and get help with your weaker areas.  Use your test, the correct answers, and your responses to help prepare for the SAT.
- Create a file to help manage your college
search, testing, and application information.
 

 

JANUARY 2005

22 - SAT I & II Tests

This Month:

- Explore financial aid possibilities with your counselor, through your career/college center, through your library , and through your parents' connections (employers, professional organizations, religious affiliations, etc.).
- Write your social security number and your school's College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) number on a card for your wallet or memorize the numbers.
- Visit College Board on the Web . . . some of this year's PSAT/NMSQT Q & As will be included.

 

 

FEBRUARY 2005

12 - ACT test at Ansbach.  Register 2 weeks in advance with your high school counselor.

This Month:

- Be sure all necessary materials have been sent to your chosen colleges.
- Don't get senioritis: colleges want to see strong second semester grades.

 
 

MARCH 2005

25 - Registration Deadline: May SAT I & II
 

This Month:

- Register* for May SAT early to avoid late registration fee.
- Check with your counselor/college center for summer programs on college campuses.
- When registering for senior year courses, be sure to select strong college preparatory courses.
- Create an initial list of colleges to contact for additional information.

APRIL 2005

9 April - ACT test date. Register with your high school counselor 2 weeks before the test.
29 - Registration Deadline: June SAT I & II

This Month:

- Prepare for May AP Examinations, if applicable.
- Attend college fairs in your area.
- Visit colleges that interest you; if possible, attend classes on campus.

 
 

MAY 2005

7 - SAT I & II Test
 

This Month:

- Take AP Examinations, if applicable.
- Create your "resume" -record all your accomplishments, involvements, and work experiences over the past three years.
- Find answers to the May SAT test on the SAT Prep Center.

 
 

JUNE 2005

4 - SAT I & II Test

End of the school year:

- End the year with strong grades.
- Ask your English teacher for a suggested summer reading list.
- If you are considering military academies or ROTC scholarships, be sure to contact your counselor before leaving school for summer.

 

JULY and AUGUST 2005

Summer:

- Work to help for college
- Attend a summer program on a college campus, or get involved in an internship relevant to your career interest.
- Read and stay ready for senior year
