Classroom teachers will weave these strategies into
their teaching during this school year. Students will be expected to be
able to explain and know how to use these strategies. The following is a
brief description of “The Big 6” and “6+1 Problem Solving”.
The Big 6
Based on the idea that the goal of education must
be to teach children how to learn and to give them the skills to
apply the information to real world situations. The “Big 6” information
skills provide a more formal structure to problem solving.

6+1 Writing Traits
The 6+1 Trait writing framework is
a way to learn and use a common language to refer to characteristics of
writing as well as create a common vision of what 'good' writing looks
like. Teachers and students can use the 6+1 Trait model to pinpoint
areas of strength and weakness as they continue to focus on improved
writing.
